The Reality of Aid Africa Network is a Pan African initiative focusing on analysis and lobbying and advocating for poverty eradication policies in the international aid system and development co-operation. We seek to strengthen the involvement of African civil society organisations in the policy reform on the international aid architecture as well as development co-operation.

Our Objectives, Operational Framework & Target

  • 01 Our Objectives

    i. Providing reliable and well-researched reports on international aid performance in Africa;
    ii. Influencing national and international policy makers, in the North and the South, through lobbying and policy dialogue;
    iii. Increasing public knowledge and awareness and thereby popular and political pressure for accountable development cooperation policies in donor countries;
    iv. Facilitating collaboration and shared learning between the network members, NGOs and CSOs in Africa to enhance their capacity to advocate for effective development cooperation.
    v. To link the network with other international initiatives to contribute to an informed debate on the role of aid in poverty eradication in Africa

  • While the program will be co-ordinated with a regional perspective, national activities as well as global activities will also be considered. For each national and global initiative, specific objectives will jointly be defined, in the light of the broad policy objectives for the activity.

    The framework will define what will be the roles and responsibilities of the organisations bearing in mind the nature of the partnership:- a. ROA Africa Network and network affiliates),
    b. ROA Africa Network stand alone regional work
    c. ROA Africa Network with other international partners including donor partners, European CSOs and
    d. Relationship between the partners.

  • General public, Members of Parliament, Multilateral Institutions including AfDB, World Bank and IMF, Pan African institutions including the African Union, and the Economic Commission for Africa, African Civil Society Organisations, African Governments, Ministries of Development Co-operations, Northern Civil Society Organisations, Academic institutions.

Our research is used primarily to generate strategic information to enable the network undertake awareness raising among its members and other African CSOs across the continent.

We ensure strategic information is provided to partners for prompt action, and to mobilise public opinion in order to generate public pressures on issues. Dissemination conferences, meetings and workshops, publications of print and electronic materials, and publicity campaigns are utilised.

ROA Africa seeks to develop a continental network well versed with issues on international aid architecture and development cooperation, which would provide support for awareness creation on implementation of multilateral and bilateral agreements, by local groups.
